பொன்னியின் செல்வன்
தமிழ் இலக்கியவரலாற்றில் அசைக்க முடியாத இடத்தில் இருப்பதே பொன்னியின் செலவன் கதையாகும், இக்கதையை ஒரு தடவை வாசித்தால் ஏதோ அக்காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்தது போன்ற ஒரு உணர்வு ஏற்படுவது தவர்க்க முடியாது. பலதடவை திரைப்படமாக எடுக்க முனைந்தாலும் வெற்றி அளிக்கவில்லை. இது கட்டாயமாக திரைப்படமாக்கி தமிழர் வரலாற்றை ஒரு ஆவணம் ஆக்க வேண்டும். அப்படித்திரைப்படமானால் எனது நடிகர் தெரிவு பின்வருமாறு அமையும் :-)

பென்டாமீடியா எடுத்தால் அது சிறுவர் காவியம் போல மாறிவிடும்
ஆகவே லாட் ஒவ் த ரிங்க்ஸ் மாதிரி 3 என்ன 4 பாகமாக எடுத்தால் கூடப்பரவாயில்லை.
ஆனால் பணம் அந்தளவிற்கு கிடைக்குமா என்பதுதான் இப்போதய கேள்வி????
Making பொன்னியின் செல்வன் into a movie is really hard task. There are many problems:
- The character moldings are so strong (with the help of the artist மாருதி(?) and வினு), that I can't accept விக்ரம் as வந்தியத்தேவன் (even though I love விக்ரம்).
- The story is of five parts, it is hard to make a single movie out of it. Probably you can have series of movies like Lord of the Rings (others have suggested this as well).
- While accepting it is a great novel, it is not really very suitable for a movie. The story really lacks action and the standard movie flow (buildup-rush to climax-climax-conclusion). I mean, even though it is a great literature, it will become a boring movie. You see the strong point in this novel is Kalki's எழுத்து நடை. You can't reproduce that in silver screen.
Further, I don't like your actor selections. விக்ரம் is too big for வந்தியத்தேவன் and way too old. Also மீனா for நந்தினி, nah! நந்தினி is someone so seductive that seeing her you should almost get scared (கல்கி's comparision to நாகம்). Also, விவேக் is definitely not for ஆழ்வார்க்கடியான். ஆழ்வார்க்கடியான் is very short and stout. செந்தில் is good in terms of body, but not good face-wise or personality wise. I would say, if you ever make this story a movie, take all new faces for the movie, so that the audiences will not be distracted from the story by the famous faces.
I would love to see Sandilyan's கடல் புறா as a movie. It has content higly suitable for movie (commercially as well).

பொன்னியின் செல்வன் கதைக்கு, அருள்மொழிவர்மனாக அஜீத்குமார், வந்தியதேவனாக சூர்யா நல்ல காம்பினெசனாக இருக்கும். ஆழ்வார்க்கடியானுக்கு விவேக்கே பொருத்தமான நபர்.
மேலும், கடல் புறா சினிமா படமாக எடுக்க நல்ல ஒர் கதை.
